E4-Misfits Audience and why successful

Misfits’, which follows a set of unlikely superheroes, was the most- watched multichannel programme yesterday (11 November), with a 6.3% share of the TV-watching audience between 10pm and 11pm.
According to Channel 4, nearly 600,000 viewers were in E4’s target demographic of 16- to 34-year-olds and the programme took a 16.9% share among the age group. The share among 16- to 24-year-olds was 28.2%.

But is there a silver lining to all of this? BBC3, ITV2 and especially E4 are increasingly being seen as pinnacles of innovation and creativity, with young audiences somewhat introducing the online viewing, webisode watching, multi-platform viewing habits most now use every day. Skins, despite not being sci-fi or fantasy, is responsible for so much in terms of online activity that supports today’s television, and the same practices of offering online content that complements the main show have helped make shows like Misfits big hits. This is because it is a very gritty british drama which attracts younger viewers due to the characters being based around modern era as the characters represents the youth society as energetic, lively and ruthless creating a sense of life being driven into them as programmes like these where action is taking place it reflects society, so therefore with my project it would represent the youth society as how misfits portrays there.

Silver-Linings Production
Off the 3 given briefs i have decided to go with brief one, which was silver lining productions. The brief clearly indicates that silver lining production is a multi media production that is successful with fly on the wall documentaries and fiction programmes. However since it being pre-watershed my audience is around 15-35 years old as it is a mature programme with adult humour. However i need to choose another task which is prinitng. I believe this would link to the silver linings prodcution because it is film based as creating a poster would be a still image of the whole film summed up such as films being postered on billboards which is useful and appropriate.


From the work i have done, i have researched channel prodcution where my product can be based on and why, also other comparisons of films which have the same genre to my film production and the demographics which can help me expand my understanding. The main thing to concentrate on is the audience, if its is relevant and if it will succeed due to looking at other similar programmes. I decided to do this as it is interesting and diffrentiated.
